Actor and media personality Patrick Doyle has criticised socialite Sophia Egbueje over her recent Lamborghini purchase, which became a trending topic on social media.
The controversy started after a leaked audio conversation surfaced online last week Thursday, in which Sophia alleged that Burna Boy had a one-night stand with her and failed to fulfill his promise of buying her a Lamborghini.
She claimed she decided to cut him off and eventually purchased the luxury car herself.
The audio sparked mixed reactions, with many questioning her expectations from the singer. Following the backlash, Sophia took to social media to announce that she bought a white Lamborghini without Burna Boy’s help.
Reacting on Facebook, Doyle condemned Sophia’s public display of wealth, particularly her boast about the value of her wristwatch and her N600 million car.
He expressed disappointment that some social media users praised her extravagance despite widespread awareness of her alleged questionable lifestyle.
“She boasted about the value of her wristwatch and flaunted a 600 million Naira car. The combined value of both items is in the range of 650 to 750 million Naira. Some half-wits were impressed and effusively congratulated her as she smiled and flaunted both items. As if we hadn’t heard about her shameful means of livelihood,” he wrote.
Doyle also suggested that while Sophia indulged in luxury, some of her extended family members might be facing financial hardship.
“Meanwhile, I can bet that there are members of her extended [family] who are going through a tough time. The romanticizing of iniquity has become the stock in trade of dim wits amongst us,” he added.
