Paul Okoye of the defunct P-Square group has shared the conversation he had with an alleged fraudster who posed as the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Instagram.
The 36-year-old on Thursday posted a screenshot of the conversation he had with the impersonator.
“Fake Sanusi asked me to help send N5m to someone from my account as he was having issues with his online banking,” Peter wrote.
He said the man’s voice gave him away when they spoke, before wondering how the former boss of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would ask him for money.
The police in Kano had on Thursday announced the arrest of a man for allegedly impersonating Emir Sanusi on Instagram.
Last year, the emir said he did not have any social media accounts, but the fake account has more than 200,000 followers and an official verification badge.
A Kano police spokesman told the BBC the man behind it had seven other fake accounts, with three million followers.
According to reports, months of intense investigation ensured the arrest of the suspect.
Following the arrest, the official verification badge was removed and the page has now been made private.
Kano police spokesman, Deputy Supt Musa Magaji, said the 20-year-old suspect would be charged with crimes of impersonation and fraud.
