Minister of women affairs Pauline Tallen on Wednesday visited the inspector general of police Usman Baba at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
She was accompanied by some relatives of the late gospel singer Osinachi Nwachukwu alleged to have been abused by her husband Peter Nwachukwu.
Since Osinachi’s death, Tallen has visited the children of the deceased who revealed to her their mother’s travails in the marriage.
Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement said Tallen discussed, among other things, the plight of women in Nigeria, particularly in relation to gender and domestic violence and also pointed out Osinachi’s case.
Tallen, he added, “was equally interested to know what efforts the police have put in place to ensure swift justice is dispensed.”
The statement said the IGP assured that cases of domestic violence, sexual and gender-based violence, rape, and other social vices would receive quick attention from the police and that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
