Senator Osinakachukwu Ideozu, representing Rivers West, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Majority Leader at the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, announced Ideozu’s defection at plenary on Wednesday.
Lawan, who was moving a motion for the adjournment of plenary till November 6, welcomed and congratulated Ideozu for joining the majority party.
With this, the three senators from Rivers, a PDP-controlled state, are now members of the APC.
The others are Senators Andrew Uchendu (Rivers East) and Magnus Abe (Rivers South East).
Ideozu’s defection, including that of Shehu Sani, who joined the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has altered the composition of the political parties in the Senate.
APC maintains its 56, while PDP now has 49. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have two each, with PRP having one.
