Nollywood legend Pete Edochie has expressed sadness over the death of his grandson Kambilinachukwu.
The 16-year-old, who was the son of actor Yul Edochie, died on Thursday morning, March 30.
Pete told Vanguard that Kambilinachukwu fell while playing football with his schoolmates on Wednesday and developed a seizure.
According to him, the boy was rushed to the Mother and Child Hospital in Lagos where he died hours later.
The legendary actor said his family started praying for the child immediately after Yul called him on the telephone about the sad incident.
He said: “Kambilinachukwu is a very quiet, brilliant and talented child. He’s not somebody you can ride easily. He doesn’t get angry no matter the situation. He may change his composure, but he was definitely a very unusual person in so many respects.
“He was so accomplished. I always tell my son that I don’t like people excelling like this in anything they are involved in. Experience has taught me that such people don’t last long.”
Pete said it was unfortunate that his grandson died after showing great promise.
The news of the incident has shaken the movie industry and left hearts broken.
As of the time of filing this report, Yul and his first wife, May, had not publicly spoken about the incident.
In celebrating Kambilinachukwu’s 16th birthday on January 4, Yul had written on Instagram, “A very happy 16th birthday to my first son, Kambilinachukwu Leo Yul-Edochie. May God lead and protect you always. With many more happy years. Daddy loves you.”
