Presidential candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi has apologised to his supporters over the controversy raised by the party’s campaign council list.
The party announced a 1,234-member council during a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja.
Among the names that have generated controversy is that of a retired major general of the Nigerian Army, John Enenche, who had in the past said claims about soldiers shooting #EndSARS protesters at Lekki toll gate in Lagos on October 20, 2022, were false.
Obi said in a Twitter thread on Friday that the campaign council list would be reviewed.
He said, “I’ve received several calls of concern following the release of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council list. Admittedly, there were some omissions and erroneous entries in the list, hence the concerns expressed.
“In response, the Labour Party Chairman in the presence of members of the NWC addressed the issues during a press conference. In keeping with our commitment to accountability, responsiveness and transparency, an updated list will be issued in due course. I plead for patience.”
The Labour Party had earlier apologised for including the names of the presidents of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress in the council.
