Presidential candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi has given a graduate Sophia Emmanuel a cheque to purchase an oven for her confectionery business.
On Thursday, Obi shed tears at his first press conference since INEC declared the winner of the election when describing his experience with Ms Emmanuel.
The LP candidate had said she graduated from a university in 2018 but had no job, adding that she was learning to be a baker. Obi said the lady told him that she was not making progress in the trade because she did not have N75,000 to buy an oven.
The former governor of Anambra State revealed on Saturday via Instagram that he had fulfilled his pledge to assist her in her aspiration to acquire an oven and start her baking and confectionery business.
Obi shared photos of himself handing over a cheque to her. Activist and co-convener of Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement Aisha Yesufu witnessed it.
Obi said, “Today, I fulfilled my pledge to assist Ms Gimba Sophia Emmanuel in her aspiration to acquire an oven and start her baking and confectionery business.
“Interestingly, she had indicated that she would procure a Nigerian-made oven, thus enhancing the value chain and putting into effect the production to consumption mantra.”
