Former governor of Anambra State Peter Obi has congratulated Charles Soludo on winning the governorship election in Anambra.
Mr Soludo, 61, won with 112,229 votes, defeating his fiercest rivals Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 53,807 votes; Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress who got 43,285 votes; and Ifeanyi Ubah of the Young Progressive Party who polled 21,261 votes in fourth position.
“I congratulate Prof. Chukwuma Soludo on winning the gubernatorial election,” Mr Obi, a member of the PDP, said in a statement on Wednesday.
He also thanked the people of Anambra for defying the odds to perform their civic duties.
“I urge them to support the in-coming governor through prayers and other legitimate means to see that Anambra returns to her former glory as the ‘Light of the Nation,'” he said.
The former vice-presidential candidate added that he would, most importantly, “continue to commit the state into God’s hands for His will to be done at all times.”
Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, won 19 out of 21 local government areas.
