Peter Obi congratulates Tems on second Grammy win

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has congratulated singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, on her win at the 67th Grammy Awards.

Tems clinched the Best African Music Performance award on Sunday at the event held at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old secured the award with her hit song ‘Love Me Jeje,’ marking her second Grammy win after her contribution to Future’s ‘Wait For U.’

In a post on X on Monday, Obi celebrated her achievement while applauding the global success of Nigerian youth in entertainment. He also commended other Nigerian artists nominated for the Grammys, emphasising the country’s vast talent pool making waves internationally.

“I am ever elated by the huge success Nigerian youths are making in various fields, especially in the entertainment sector.

“I like therefore to extend my hearty congratulations to our Nigerian Afrobeats star, Tems #temsbaby, who just secured her second Grammy Award with her win in the Best African Music Performance category.

“I also rejoice with Nigeria’s entertainment industry and other Nigerian artists who were nominated for different awards in their respective categories.

“Undoubtedly, Nigeria remains home to the endless flow of talents who, through their creative arts, continue to put the nation on the global map. I firmly remain committed to building a nation that fosters growth among the youths and helps them discover and harness their individual talents for national productivity. A New Nigeria is POssible,” he wrote.

The Best African Music Performance category featured an all-Nigerian lineup, including Yemi Alade’s ‘Tomorrow,’ Asake’s ‘MMS,’ Chris Brown’s ‘Sensational’ featuring Davido and Lojay and Burna Boy’s ‘Higher.’
