Since the group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc Herbert Wigwe and former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Abimbola Ogunbanjo and others died in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 9, high-profile personalities have been visiting the bereaved families to commiserate with them.
Three days after the incident, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun led a number of persons to Wigwe’s parents, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe and Stella Wigwe.
Among those who joined Abiodun on the visit was Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote, former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Wigwe’s business partner who is also former group managing director (GMD) and CEO of Access Bank Plc, Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede.
Others who joined in the condolence visit include political economist, Prof Pat Utomi; media entrepreneur, Nduka Obaigbena; and the founder of Stanbic IBTC and Anap Foundation, Atedo Peterside.
Concerning Wigwe’s demise, Obi wrote on X on February 13, “His death remains a terrible sore in my heart, especially when I consider his immense contributions to our national development, and his plans to do more for the nation in the very critical areas of development.”

Also, representatives of the board and management of NGX Group and other key stakeholders of the capital market paid condolence visits to the bereaved families, according to a statement on Thursday, February 15 by the NGX Group.
The delegation, led by NGX Group chairman Umaru Kwairanga, included representatives from Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS), Association of Dealing Houses of Nigeria (ASHON), Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS) Plc, and NG Clearing.
Among the delegation was the Group CEO of NGX Group Temi Popoola and his predecessor Oscar Onyema.
On Friday, February 16, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki shared on social media photos taken during his condolence visit in Wigwe’s honour.
