Former presidential candidate Peter Obi, celebrity chef Hilda Baci, Big Brother Naija star Laycon, actor Olumide Oworu, and dancer Kaffy among others have paid a visit to a medical doctor and visual artist, Fola David, who is attempting to set the record of the world’s largest painting by an individual.
David broke the previous record of 629.98 square metres, held by Indian Ravi Soni on Friday, the fourth day of his attempt.
He said that he is determined to attain his ultimate goal of 1000 square metres of art.
David’s artwork, titled “Unity in Diversity,” will feature a map of Nigeria highlighting the country’s diverse tribes through their unique attire, languages, art, and essence.
David, in an Instagram post, thanked Hilda Baci for not only visiting but also bringing food supplies. Hilda set a world record of the longest cooking marathon by an individual in 2023.
Some officials from David’s alma mater, the University of Lagos, also paid him a visit at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos. Among them were the dean of student affairs, Professor Olufemi Fasanmade, and the director of administration, College of Medicine, Dr. Olayinka Martins. They presented him an award of honour and merit.
Obi wrote about his visit on social media, saying, “This demonstration of creativity with cause is one I am compelled to support. The strength of Nigeria is in its youthful population, which I believe should be harnessed.
“Not only is this brilliant young man demonstrating his capacity, he is showcasing to the world that Nigeria has a wide spectrum of brilliant and dynamic young people, who can achieve anything they set their minds to accomplish, whilst doing so for the pride and delight of our beloved country.”
The record-breaking attempt is scheduled to end on July 21.
