Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has said the presidential candidate of the Labour Party Peter Obi is his hero.
At a town hall meeting with Igbo traders in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike said Obi is the reason why power did not return to the north.
Wike has been against his party’s presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar. There are allegations he rigged the presidential election in Rivers in favour of the APC’s Bola Tinubu, but he has vehemently denied it.
Wike said at the meeting that the states where Obi recorded victories would have been won by the PDP, thereby retaining power in the north.
“In this election that we just did,” he said, “Obi is my hero, as far as I’m concerned. If he didn’t contest, power would have remained in the north.”
Wike urged the traders to ignore comments by detractors and vote for the PDP in the March 18 governorship and state assembly elections.
Others in attendance were the governorship candidate of the PDP in the state, Sim Fubara; the south-south vice chairman of the PDP, Dan Orbih, among others.
