Businessman Sholaye Jeremi hosted several dignitaries last week in Sapele, Delta State for the funeral of his mother Lilian Jeremi.
Mrs Jeremi died on May 14, 2024, at the age of 74.
On Thursday evening, August 29, a service of songs took place at her Sapele residence, uniting loved ones in shared grief and gratitude.
The following day, August 30, a memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church in Sapele, a place that held special significance for the deceased. Friends and family paid their final respects in the place of worship, filled with heartfelt tributes, hymns and prayers. Afterward, a reception at the Athletic Club in GRA Sapele offered an opportunity for reflection and storytelling about the deceased’s profound impact on her community.
The reception was a showcase of the culture and tradition of Sapele people.
For Jeremi, father of blogger Linda Ikeji’s son Jayce, the farewell ceremony was a tribute to his bond with his mum, rooted in love, faith, and cherished memories.
Among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were former presidential candidate, Peter Obi; former Delta State governor, James Ibori; sports administrator and former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick; and actor Richard Mofe-Damijo popularly referred to by his initials, RMD.
Also present was businessman Terry Waya, former group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and former minister of state for petroleum resources, Ibe Kachikwu; CEO of OldEnglish Supermarket and media mogul Lanre Alfred; and former ThisDay Style editor Ruth Osime.
