Former governor and presidential candidate Peter Obi has praised Ugo Ugochukwu, son of US-based Nigerian model Oluchi Onweagba, on winning the 2024 FIA FR World Cup and the 71st Macau Grand Prix.

Ugochukwu clinched the 2024 FIA Formula Regional (FR) World Cup title on Sunday, November 17 at the 71st Macau Grand Prix.

The 17-year-old dominated the race from start to finish, representing R-ace GP, with Olivier Goethe of MP Motorsport and Noel León of KCMG IXO by Pinnacle Motorsport finishing second and third, respectively.

In a statement on Monday via X, Obi highlighted the significance of Ugochukwu’s achievement, praising the young driver’s talent and perseverance.

“Ugo’s outstanding victory stands as a testament to his immense talent, hard work, and consistent dedication—qualities that our youth today can demonstrate when given the right support and guidance,” Obi said.

“His success serves as an inspiration to young Nigerians everywhere, illustrating the boundless potential that can be realized when passion is paired with opportunity,” Obi added.

Obi also commended McLaren for their role in Ugochukwu’s development, describing the team’s support as a model for nurturing young talent.

“I must also commend McLaren for their foresight in recognising Ugo’s potential and for their ongoing commitment to developing young talent. Their support underscores the critical role of nurturing ambition and investing in the future,” he said.
