Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 poll Peter Obi met with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Saturday at the funeral of Pa Abraham Douye, father of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri.
Obi, who considers Atiku his elder brother in politics, went over to greet the nation’s former number two citizen who was his rival at the 2023 poll.
Other dignitaries that attended the funeral service held at St Peters Anglican Church in Sampou, Bayelsa State include former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and wife Dolapo.
Also present was the former PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu; Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio.
Commenting on his attendance at the funeral, Obi tweeted on Sunday, “Yesterday, I joined our respected Leaders; President Obasanjo, President Jonathan, Vice President Atiku, Vice President Osinbajo, Governor Okowa, and other respected Nigerians to condole with the Bayelsa State Governor, and my dear brother, Duoye Diri, at the funeral of his beloved father, Pa Abraham Diri in Bayelsa State.
“I prayed to God to grant Pa Abraham eternal rest and comfort the entire Diri family and the Government and good people of Bayelsa over Papa’s irreplaceable loss.”
