Presidential candidate of Labour Party Peter Obi has described the death of his mentor Sylvester Nwobu-Alor as devastating.
Nwobu-Alor, a veteran grassroots political strategist, died aged 95 at Regina Caeli Hospital in Awka, Anambra State capital, on October 7.
He battled an undisclosed ailment for a long time.
Nwobu-Alor represented Njikoka South Central in the old Anambra State House of Assembly in the Second Republic. He served under successive governments in the state in different capacities.
A statement by Obi’s media office on Sunday said the former governor of Anambra State requested one minute silence when he got the news during his consultations in the United Kingdom.
Obi described Nwobu-Alor as a consummate politician, recalling the critical part he played in his political journey; how he consulted him every time, and all his enduring advice that made him a better politician over time.
Obi prayed for the repose of the soul of Nwobu-Alor and said that for the memories of people like him, he would continue to be encouraged to serve the public selflessly.
