Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the February 25 poll Peter Obi has hailed Israel Adesanya on reclaiming his middleweight title at the UFC 287 in Miami, Florida, USA.
The Nigeria-born New Zealander won back the title on Saturday just five months after he lost it to Brazilian Alex Pereira, who has previously beaten him twice in kickboxing.
In a tweet on Sunday, Obi said Adesanya showed that persistence is the path to reclamation.
The presidential candidate used Adesanya’s victory to echo his message to his supporters about staying hopeful to reclaim the alleged mandate given to him on February 25.
Obi said, “By decisively knocking out his opponent and regaining his UFC Middleweight Title last night, Israel Adesanya @stylebender proved that persistence is the path to reclamation. Congratulations valiant Champion!”
It took Adesanya just two rounds to end Pereira’s dominance and reclaim the middleweight title he lost last November.
The Nigerian described his victory as a sweet revenge.
“This is a sweet sweet victory and you know I have a sweet tooth. The hunter is now the haunted,” Adesanya said during his post-fight interview inside the octagon.
He further said, “I hope every one of you can feel this level of happiness for one time in your life.
“But guess what – you’ll never feel this level of happiness if you don’t go for something in your life. When they knock you down, if you stay down, you will never get that resolve.”
