Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has criticised his family following his testimony against his elder brother Jude Okoye, who is currently facing money laundering charges.

Jude and his company Northside Music Limited are being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a seven-count charge bordering on the laundering of N1.38 billion, $1 million and £34,537.59.

Peter gave evidence against Jude on Monday at the Federal High Court in Lagos, before Justice Alexander Owoeye.

Reacting a day later on his Instagram Stories, the former member of the now-defunct Psquare group appeared to disown his family.

“Don’t let ‘family’ be the reason you’re drowning in silence. I did – for over 20 years plus. And it almost cost me everything,” he wrote.

“But now I know better – love doesn’t manipulate, loyalty doesn’t betray and family does not steal from you. Family that steals and breaks you isn’t family at all.

“Real family doesn’t drain you, shame you, discriminate against you or ignore your pain. My sanity matters. My mental health is a priority. If it costs my mental health, then it’s too expensive.”

During his court testimony, Peter alleged that in late 2022, he found out Jude created a company named Northside Music Limited, closely resembling Northside Entertainment Ltd—Jude’s original company that managed P-Square at the height of the group’s fame.

He claimed Jude used the new company to launder funds belonging to Psquare, allegedly in collusion with Peter’s twin brother, Paul Okoye (aka Rudeboy).

The brothers, who dominated the Nigerian music scene for over a decade as Psquare, first split in 2017 following internal family disputes, reunited in 2021 only to split again in 2024.
