President Muhammadu Buhari’s sermon about low-key inauguration made no impact on All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Ekiti State who rolled out the drums to celebrate Dr Kayode Fayemi’s appointment as Minister of Solid Minerals.
Live bands were stationed at the party secretariat along Ajilosun Street as early as 8am as APC members and supporters trooped in, waiting for the inauguration and allocation of portfolio to the former Ekiti governor.
Crowd of supporters at the secretariat spilled over to the main road along the busy Akure-Ado Ekiti road in jubilation when news broke that Fayemi had been named minister of solid minerals, the sector Buhari identified as the second golden egg of the nation’s economy after oil in.
Party leaders were overjoyed, saying the President’s gesture was a prayer answered, as the sector would be the largest employers of labour according to Buhari’s economic blueprint.
State Deputy Chairman, APC, Kemi Sola Olaleye, described Fayemi as a dependable and patriotic leader that would add value to the change agenda of President Buhari’s administration.
Olaleye urged members to pray for the success of the minister in his new assignment, assuring that Fayemi would once again prove his mettle as an agent of positive change to lift the country out of poverty.
“I have no doubt that JKF will demonstrate his talents again in the handling of his briefs in his new appointment.
“I want to believe that his appointment as solid minerals minister is not by chance; it is a well-considered opinion by the President that the dream to turn around the nation’s economy by heavily investing in solid minerals to create jobs for millions of unemployed graduates as well as generating revenue to the nation purse can only be entrusted in the care of a brilliant, visionary and honest Nigerian like Dr Kayode Fayemi to enable the President succeed in his economic agenda for development and growth,” Olaleye explained.
Women Leader, Dupe Bakare, described Fayemi’s appointment as a consolidation of the change agenda of the President, explaining that his vision and transparent conduct in government business would be brought to bear in actualising the dream of taking the nation out of mono-economy plagued by mindless corruption and incompetence.
For the Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, Fayemi represents a new generation of young visionaries needed to return Nigeria to the path of sanity, economic prosperity and social development.
Erelu Iyabo Babatunde assured Nigerians that the former governor would deploy his vision and competence to make the development of solid minerals the major driver of the nation’s economy in employment generation, revenue earning and development of technology that would place Nigeria in the map of non-oil economy among the world powers.
