It was an abrupt New Year holiday for ex-Super Eagles skipper and coach, Sunday Oliseh, whose new employers at Fortuna Sittard wasted little time in getting their new man to work.
The 42-year-old was appointed coach of the Dutch second division side in December replacing Ben van Dael who only won five out of 19 games in charge.
Oliseh was unveiled to the media on Monday, which was just the second day of the year, and immediately took charge of the team’s training a day after.
On why he settled for a side struggling in the Jupiler league, the Nigerian said “Because this is a good opportunity for me.”
His first game will be against Achilles ’29 on January 13.
“Years ago I got the highest coaching diploma in England, in a class with guys like Ryan Giggs and Roberto Di Matteo. Now I want to bring my football philosophy into practice. There were other clubs interested in me. But they are thousands of kilometres away from my home (in Belgium). And I want to be close to my family,” he continued.
According to the club’s official website, Oliseh’s press conference is the most attended by journalists and fans alike.
