Picture: Sanwo-Olu, AbdulRazaq travel to Japan with Buhari

Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Lagos and Kwara states respectively on Sunday travelled with President Muhammadu Buhari to Japan for the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) holding in the City of Yokohama from August 28 to 30.

Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State is also on the delegation.

President Buhari’s participation will be his second, having attended TICAD6 in Nairobi, Kenya, in August 2016.

He will deliver Nigeria’s statement during Plenary Session Three in which he will appraise Nigeria-Japan relations and takeaways from TICAD6.

Buhari will also attend a state banquet and honour the invitation of Emperor Naruhito to a tea reception at the Imperial Palace, Tokyo.

In addition to a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the Nigerian president will also attend some side-events and meet chief executive officers of some Japanese companies with huge investments in Nigeria.

A statement by Sanwo-Olu’s spokesman, Gboyega Akosile, said the governor would be meeting with some Japanese conglomerates with the aim to driving investments to Lagos.

AbdulRazaq’s media aide, Rafiu Ajakaye, said: “The event will afford the governor the opportunity to discuss business and investment opportunities in Kwara State with top global players.”

Buhari is expected back in Nigeria on Saturday, August 31.
