Plus-size lady Nneka Agbanusi has begun getting attention on social media over her dance videos.
Known on Instagram as nikkidibbles, the 31-year-old regularly shares videos of herself dancing to some of her favourite songs.
Unashamed of her size, Agbanusi takes the attention she’s getting to educate plus-size men and women to accept their bodies and live freely.
On Thursday, March 26, she posted a video to her over 20,000 Instagram followers.
She said: “I want you guys to know that all of these is not just for me. It’s for you. It’s for women like me. It’s for men who are like me who have been talked down, denied privileges, shut out of opportunities just because of your size. I want you all to know that you’re beautiful. I want you all to know that this darkness that you’re in, you’re going to see the light. The light is just at the end of that tunnel, only if you will believe.”
The Instagram sensation told BBC Pidgin recently that she began noticing she was gaining weight when the drug administered to treat her asthmatic health condition began showing side effect.
She said: “I was not fat in my childhood. I was very slim, but I had a health issue. I was very asthmatic when I was growing up. So they began giving me steroids to help with the asthma. The ripple effect of this medication is that I began adding weight, coupled with the fact that I was experiencing some depressing moments in my life as a child.
“So many times I’ve tried to lose weight, but I gain it again. Later I decided that what matters is that I am fit even if I’m plus-size. I look after myself, I do workout, I eat well and I face my life, that is what is important.”
