Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has arrested top members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, Kunle Poly and Sego, over the recent violence in Idumota and environs.
The latest violence occurred last Thursday, crippling commercial activities in the area.
RRS commander Olayinka Egbeyemi led his men in the arrest of the NURTW leaders on Monday.
“The arrest was effected today at a meeting where the two NURTW members along with some other stakeholders converged,” RRS said.
“Kunle Poly and Sego are currently being transferred to Zone II, Onikan, Lagos.”
The recent violence is believed to have emanated from two rival factions in the union.
One of the factions Eyo boys is reportedly loyal to Kunle Poly. The Eyo boys have been at loggerheads with Kosoko boys over control of territory.
It was gathered that Eyo boys expected Kosoko boys collecting levies from commercial bus drivers on Idumota Bridge to make returns but the latter declined.
Violence erupted around midday last Thursday as members of the factions began firing gunshots at one another and brandishing cutlasses.
Viral videos of the clash showed two persons severely injured.
Although security operatives were deployed to the area to restore peace, commercial activities are yet to resume fully in Idumota over the crisis.
