The Police have arrested six persons in connection to the assault of a lady in Benin, Edo State, who was accused of stealing a phone.
Qed.ng had reported that a video had gone viral since Monday of a woman who was stripped naked with pepper rubbed on her private part.
Force spokesman, Frank Mba, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, confirmed the arrest.
He said the Edo Police Commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu, had moved quickly to apprehend the suspects on the order of the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
Mr Mba added that the police have intensified efforts to round up two other male suspects who are still at large.
“The Nigeria police force condemns jungle justice in its entirety and warns of dire consequences for persons who resort to criminal acts of self-help,” he said.
The Force spokesman also said that the police had established contact with the 24-year-old victim, and that her health status was being monitored.
