Ebonyi police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, confirmed the arrest on Friday.
Odah said the suspect, Uche Ibiam, was cooperating with the police.
Mr Ibiam, ex-coordinator of Ubeyi Development Centre in Afikpo North Local Government Area, was said to have killed Enyinnaya Ibiam, during a PDP councillorship primary election in Unwana Ward, Afikpo North LGA last Friday.
