Police in Oyo state have confirmed the kidnap of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state Benedict Akika.
Mr. Akika, an ally of Governor Seyi Makinde, was taken captive on Wednesday night at his Olorunda residence in Lagelu Local Government Area.
A family source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, was quoted by PUNCH as saying, “There was a sporadic gunshot which was aimed at scaring the residents and passersby. He was later whisked away on Wednesday night to an unknown destination.”
Reacting to the development, Oyo police spokesperson Adewale Osifeso said in a brief message on Thursday. “Investigation has commenced into the matter. Updates will be provided accordingly, please,” Osifeso said.
