Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons in a four-storey building that collapsed on Wednesday in Onitsha.
The building still under construction before the fall was said to have collapsed at about 1:45 pm.
Eyewitnesses say the fall might be connected to weak building materials.
Anambra police spokesperson, Haruna Mohammed, in a statement on Thursday said three persons were rescued alive from the debris.
Three people, “whose identities are yet to be ascertained, were rescued alive from the collapsed building and rushed to the General hospital Onitsha by the Red Cross for medical attention while two others were certified dead by the medical doctor,” he said.
The corpses, he added, had been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy while rescue operations were ongoing.
Mr Mohammed said the case was under investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
