The Police on Thursday evening detained online personality Martins Otse popularly known as VeryDarkMan.

His lawyer Deji Adeyanju said on X that he was detained after honouring a police invitation.

Adeyanju disclosed that his client honoured a similar invitation on Wednesday.

His post read, “Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in stating that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not.”

Last Saturday, QEDNG reported that the police condemned VeryDarkMan’s unauthorised use of the uniform and launched an investigation into the matter.

In the video that stirred controversy, the social online personality humorously presented himself as a “chief superintendent of police (CSP) of the online division” while dressed in a police uniform.

Following this, he was summoned by the police. On Wednesday night, he released a video on Instagram, apologising for his action.

VeryDarkMan also advised Nigerians to ensure they have proper authorisation before using police attire to avoid any misunderstanding or legal issues.

He stated, “Back from the police station where I was questioned over the post I made wearing a costume that the police claimed resembled theirs. I didn’t mean to impersonate the police in any way, and I sincerely apologize to the Nigeria Police Force and the office of the Inspector General of Police.”
