Eight persons employed as domestic workers at singer Davido’s residence in Lagos are being interrogated by the police over the death of his three-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke
Ifeanyi was said to have drowned in the family’s swimming pool on Monday, October 31 while his parents, Davido and Chioma Rowland were on a trip to Ibadan for a family function.
“The boy was inside water for too long and they pulled him out and rushed him to the hospital. By the time they rushed him to Lagoon Hospital it was already too late,” a close source revealed.
Confirming that the domestic workers were in custody, police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin who spoke to reporters on Tuesday, said the command was questioning them to understand what really happened.
Benjamin said that all eight domestic workers employed by the singer were currently in police custody and are being interrogated.
He said: “Domestic staff at Davido’a home have been taken to the station to give their own account of what happened. I wouldn’t call that arrest yet.
“If after they all give their own account of what happened and after preliminary investigations, anyone of them is found culpable, the person will now be placed under arrest.
“Yes, the nanny is also with them. We are interviewing them separately to understand what happened. It is indeed a painful situation and we condole with the family.”
A viral video had earlier shown Davido teaching his son how to swim. In the video, Ifeanyi could be seen flapping his legs in the water while Davido gave him instructions on what next to do.
Ifeanyi Adeleke was born on October 20, 2019. He celebrated his third birthday recently.
His death comes four years after another artiste D’banj lost his son, who similarly drowned in the family’s swimming pool.
