The Nigeria Police Force has invited the 16th Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido, for questioning following an incident that occurred during the recent Sallah celebrations, amid allegations of violating a ban on Durbar festivities.
The invitation was issued under the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun and conveyed in a letter dated April 4, 2025.
The letter, signed by Commissioner of Police Olajide Ibitoye, requests the Emir to appear at the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, April 8, at 10:00 a.m.
The development follows the arrest of one Usman Sagiru, 20, from Sharifai Quarters, who was taken into custody by the Kano State Police Command in connection with the alleged killing and assault on vigilante members during Emir Sanusi’s entourage after the Eid prayers on March 30.
The police also invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for further interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation.
Security agencies had earlier placed restrictions on Durbar activities during the Sallah period, citing safety concerns and the potential for unrest.
However, Emir Sanusi reportedly defied the directive, leading processions that drew large crowds and widespread media coverage.
He also made a high-profile appearance at the Government House during the Hawan Nasarawa ceremony.
