The police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have arrived at the palace of the Emir of Kano in Kano State following the dethronement of Muhammad Sanusi II as emir.
Sanusi’s removal was announced on Monday by the state government on allegations of insubordination.
Secretary to the State Government, Usman Alhaji, had said in a statement that a new emir would be appointed ‘soon’.
Sanusi, the 14th emir of Kano under the Fulani dynasty, was appointed on June 8, 2014.
His father, Aminu Sanusi, served as the Nigerian Ambassador to Belgium, China and Canada.
His grandfather, Muhammadu Sanusi I, was the 11th Emir of Kano from 1953 until 1963 when he was deposed by his cousin, Ahmadu Bello.
