Police quiz Reps member Alex Ikwechegh over alleged assault on Bolt driver

House of representatives' member Alex Ikwegh

A member of the House of Representatives Alex Ikwechegh is in police custody after allegedly assaulting a Bolt driver Stephen Abuwatseya in Abuja.

Mr Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Ikwechegh on Zamfara Crescent in Maitama, Abuja on October 27 when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery, spokesperson of FCT Police Command Josephine Adeh said on Monday.

The police, in the statement released by Adeh, said the lawmaker showed disregard for the office of the inspector general of police during the altercation.

“The FCT Police Command expresses grave concern over Hon. Ikwegh’s dismissive attitude toward the office of the Inspector General of Police following the incident. After allegedly slapping the victim, he reportedly remarked with contempt, ‘You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,’ demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement.

“Currently, the suspect is at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning.

“Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, has mandated a thorough investigation into the matter,” Adeh said.

The Command noted that appropriate legal action will be taken when investigation is completed.
