Police silent on Taraba gov’s family involvement in robbery attack

Agbu Kefas

Taraba State Police Command has confirmed an attack on the Wukari-Kente road in Wukari Local Government Area on Thursday but declined to verify reports of Governor Agbu Kefas’ family involvement.

Social media reports on Thursday alleged that gunmen targeted the mother and sister of Governor Kefas during the attack.

Wukari Local Government chairman Dauda Agbu was said to have disclosed that the governor’s sister Atsi Kefas sustained gunshot injuries, was initially treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Wukari and later flown to Abuja for further medical care.

However, a government official refuted the claims on Thursday evening, dismissing the reports as “fake news” in a WhatsApp post.

Addressing journalists on Friday morning in Jalingo, the police public relations officer SP Abdullahi Usman confirmed the robbery but stated that the involvement of the governor’s family members had not been verified.

“Yes, we received a report of a robbery attack on Wukari -Kente road in the early hours of yesterday, but I can’t confirm whether the governor’s mother and sister were among the victims,” Usman said.

He assured the public that investigations into the attack were ongoing and that efforts were underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
