Police to prosecute Abuja native doctor for shooting self while testing bulletproof charm

FCT police command spokesperson Adeh Josephine

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced plans to prosecute Ismail Usman a native doctor who shot himself while testing a self-made “bulletproof” charm.

FCT Police public relations officer SP Josephine Adeh revealed this in a statement on Saturday.

According to Adeh, Usman shot himself on November 23 in Kuchibuyi Village, Kubwa, Abuja.

Usman shot himself in the stomach to demonstrate the efficacy of his charm. A resident Shandam Michael reported the incident to the police.

Officers from the Byazhin Division responded swiftly and found Usman in critical condition. He was rushed to the Kubwa General Hospital and later referred to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

A search of Usman’s residence uncovered a homemade gun and various charms used in the experiment.

Adeh stated that investigations are ongoing and that Usman will face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide.

FCT commissioner of police Tunji Disu condemned the incident, emphasising the risks of illegal firearm use and dangerous practices.

“This situation illustrates the serious risks of engaging in reckless behaviour. We strongly advise the community to avoid such dangerous practices,” Adeh quoted Disu as saying.
