Polygamy is the best form of marriage for Africa – Okey Bakassi

Comedian and actor, Okechukwu Onyegbule better known as Okey Bakassi has stirred conversation by claiming that polygamy is the ideal form of marriage for Africa, suggesting that monogamy is failing.

Speaking during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Bakassi boldly asserted that while many Africans claim to uphold the institution of monogamy, it is ultimately not working.

He emphasised that many people are pretending to be content in monogamous marriages, hinting at a deeper issue.

Bakassi took aim at the concept of monogamy, questioning its validity in comparison to polygamy.

He argued that polygamy, unlike monogamy, allows for multiple marriages simultaneously, while monogamy forces individuals to choose one partner and let go of the others.

“Forget all the lip service we pay to polygamy. I still think that polygamy is the best form of marriage for Africa. Monogamy is not working,” Bakassi said.

“We are pretending. Now, what’s the difference between polygamy and monogamy? Polygamy says you can marry two people at the same time.

“Monogamy says you cannot marry them at the same time; you have to let one go. What if you don’t want to let one go?”

Okey Bakassi has been married to his wife, Ezinne, for 17 years, and together, they have three children – two girls and a boy, Dera, Fechi, and Cheta.
