Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted bail in the sum of N1 million by an Upper Area Court in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The ruling followed his arraignment on multiple charges, including criminal defamation, intimidation, inciting public disturbance and cyberstalking.

The court, on Monday, April 14, 2025, allowed Portable’s release, contingent upon the provision of two sureties, each equally responsible for the bail amount.

One surety must be either the Chairman or Secretary of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), while the other must hold a valid Certificate of Occupancy for a landed property within a Government Reserved Area (GRA).

Portable’s legal representative, Isaac Adebayo, confirmed the court’s decision, noting that the bail was granted after an oral application.

“Though the condition is a bit stringent, we will meet up. He was asked to provide the Kwara State Chairman of PMAN as a surety, another person with a landed property in GRA, and one million naira in like sum,” Adebayo explained.

The case against Portable stems from a petition filed by fellow musician Saheed Osupa, accusing him of criminal defamation, threat to life, incitement, character assassination and actions likely to cause a breach of peace.

In a related development, Portable’s ongoing dispute with Saheed Osupa, sparked by a copyright issue, has added fuel to the controversy.

Saheed, who is at the center of the case, recently expressed frustration over claims made by Portable regarding song ownership and royalties.
