Radio Nigeria invasion: We were told police won’t arrest us – Alleged Yoruba Nation hijacker

Alleged Yoruba Nation radio station hijackers

One of the suspects who hijacked Radio Nigeria, Amuludun FM station in Ibadan, Oyo State capital has said that he and his alleged accomplices were told that they would not be arrested when they invade the broadcast station.

The police arrested five suspects wearing shirts branded ‘Yoruba Nation Army’ on Sunday for allegedly hijacking the radio station.

The suspects invaded the radio station at about 5:30 am on Sunday.

They were reported to have stopped the programme and started making their own broadcast with comments like “Oodua Nation has come to stay”, “Yoruba no more under the Federal Republic of Nigeria” and “United Nations will soon declare Oodua Nation”.

One of the suspects, who spoke when police paraded them, said they were asked to take over the radio station by one man identified as “Black Lion”.

“When we entered the radio station, we did not fight or beat anyone. We came for peace,” he said.

“We were told that they have declared Yoruba nation. We were told to go and recover our lands and that the police and army will not do anything against us.

“We are suffering in poverty and there is no money in the land. One man called Black Lion was the one who told us to invade the radio station.

“We were told that officials of the UN are everywhere and that cameras are watching us.”
