A prosecution witness, Onyilo Alex, on Thursday, told an FCT High Court in Gudu that one Emmanuel Sunday, 26, an alleged child rapist, broke the hymen of his victim.
Mr Alex said that a medical report obtained at Garki Hospital where the victim, a five-year-old, was taken for medical attention and treatment, revealed the action of the defendant on the victim
Sunday is standing trial on a one-count charge of rape under the Child Rights Act, Cap 50 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2003.
The witness, a police officer, who investigated the case, made the statements during cross examination by the defence lawyer, Iyamah Desmond.
The witness said that on Dec.4, 2015, the father of the victim, reported the matter at Durumi Divisional Police Station.
Alex said the victim’s father reported that his child complained of pain at her private part and on closer examination, he discovered blood coming out of her vagina.
Alex told the court that he interviewed the girl “in a confidential room for such cases without the presence of her parents or relations.
He said the victim narrated how she was raped by the defendant and that her statements were recorded, thumb-printed and he countersigned.
The witness also said that the victim took him to the scene of the incident at their house in Sun City Estate.
“The victim took me to the boys’ quarters as she said in her statement where she was raped,’’ Alex said.
He said that at that point, the defendant was arrested and taken to Durumi Police Station for interrogation.
“During interrogation, he admitted kissing the victim, using finger with his saliva to penetrate the vagina of the victim,’’ the witness said.
Justice Abubakar Talba adjourned hearing on the matter until October 23. (NAN)
