Former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, has revealed that experienced journalist, Ray Ekpu, gave him his first job at Newswatch Magazine in the 1980s.
Prof. Moghalu said in a tweet on Thursday that this was part of what he taught a group of people from 36 states of the country and the FCT who gathered at the CODE convening Wednesday night in Abuja.

The former presidential candidate also said that the emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, a non-Igbo, got him appointed as CBN deputy governor, adding that his underlying message was preaching against tribalism.
“The journalist Ray Ekpu gave me my first job at Newswatch in the 80s. Former Foreign Min. Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi’s recommendation won me a graduate fellowship @FletcherSchool @TuftsUniversity Lamido Sanusi got me appointed Dep Gov @cenbank. None of them was Igbo. #SayNoToTribalism,” he said.
“Ethnic prejudice comes from the absence of a real worldview. Small views peddled by distorted narratives then take the place of worldviews,” he added.

Moghalu was the presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) during the 2019 elections.
He announced his departure from the party on October 14 and called for reform of the country’s electoral system ahead of the 2023 general elections.
