Actress Ngozi Ezeonu’s tribute to her late colleague, Nkechi Nweje, has sparked mixed reactions on social media.
In a heartfelt tribute on Instagram on Monday, Ngozi admitted she was unaware that Nkechi had been ill.
She lamented never seeing her colleague’s smiling face again and described her as one of the nicest people she had met in Nollywood.
“It is so difficult to believe you are gone, ezigbo nwanyi Onicha. I never knew you were ill. So I will never see your ever-smiling face again.
“Nkechi, you were one of the nicest people I met in Nollywood. This is indeed a big blow. GO WELL, MY BEAUTIFUL SISTER,” she wrote.
However, her statement about not knowing Nkechi was sick did not sit well with many fans, who criticised her in the comment section.
Stanley Scofield wrote, “You never knew she was sick? You guys don’t care for each other! It’s very wrong of you guys!! No love in Nollywood.”
Jefferson Nneamaka added, “Aren’t you people supposed to be in a group WhatsApp to check on each other and have meaningful conversations together? And you all were so close in movies.”
Some commenters also pointed out that Ngozi was not the only Nollywood star who seemed unaware of Nkechi’s illness.
Chypee wrote, “Hmmm, nobody knows she was sick in the movie industry. This is almost the third post with this inscription: ‘I don’t know you were ill.’ Even from mothers her age. Rest in peace, nwanyi Onitsha.”
This is not the first time Ngozi has made headlines in recent months.
In January, a video of her rebuking two young women for attending an audition in revealing outfits went viral.
She questioned their choice of attire, particularly their decision to go braless, and expressed concern over the growing trend.
While some social media users commended her for promoting decency, others criticised her for policing women’s dress choices.
