A real estate agent, Oni Alakotan, has been arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly defrauding a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) parish of N200,000.
The 60-year-old, who resides in Mafoluku area of Lagos, on Thursday denied charges of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretences and stealing.
The court heard that Mr Alakotan committed the offences with other persons now at large in November 2018 at 30, Airport Road, Mafoluku in Oshodi, Lagos.
Police prosecutor, Ishola Samuel, said the defendant collected the said money from a parish of RCCG to rent for it a mini-warehouse but converted the money to his personal use.
“The offence contravened the provisions of Sections 411, 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,’’ the prosecutor said.
Alakotan risks a combined jail term of 22 years if convicted of all offences.
Magistrate F.O. Hughes admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, she said, must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned to May 27 for hearing.
