Facts have emerged about why Marvin Record boss, Don Jazzy, and his former business partner, D’banj, are going on a Mo’Hits reunion tour.
The two announced the proposed tour on Instagram earlier in the week, six years after they parted ways.
A source close to one of them, however, revealed to Qed.ng that the project is inspired by the success of younger artistes who have gone on tours in the last couple years.
Such artistes, the source who spoke under condition of anonymity said include Davido, Wizkid, Olamide and Adekunle Gold.
“Don Jazzy and D’banj have decided to put business before ego. They realised that they are no longer as big as they once were, and that means loss of revenue.
“Neither of them has been able to reproduce the Mo’Hits magic in spite of their best efforts and they are gradually been edged out. The tour is a bold attempt to reclaim their space on the Nigerian music scene,” the source said.
While not confirming speculation that one or both of D’banj and Don Jazzy is broke as claimed by filmmaker and scholar, Onyeka Nwelue, last year, the source said the artistes are desirous of boosting their financial profile with the tour.
“With Davido claiming he made half a billion naira from his 30 Billion Concert on December 27, 2017 alone, Don Jazzy and D’banj do not want to be left out of the windfall.
“Davido has also gone on tour of America, Europe, and is currently touring Francophone Africa.
“Wizkid and Davido are shutting down halls in Europe and Nigeria. Olamide recently went on a tour of Europe. Even Adekunle Gold and Mayorkun are not left out,” the source added.
Mo’Hits, comprising of Don Jazzy, D’banj, Wande Coal, Dr Sid, D’Prince and K-Switch broke up in 2012 after members, especially the two frontmen, fell apart “irreconcilably”.
They performed together as a group for the first time at Davido’s December concert in Lagos.
No dates have been announced for the proposed Mo’Hits reunion tour.
