The family of Rebecca Ikumelo, the woman who died after being injured in a crush at Asake’s concert at London’s Brixton O2 Academy on Thursday, has paid tribute to her.
Ms. Ikumelo, 33, died in hospital on Saturday morning, the Metropolitan Police said.
Two other women aged 21 and 23 remain in critical condition, police added.
According to her family, “Rebecca was a graduate of nursing. She was an adorable mother of two children who loved working with kids.
“She was well respected in the family for her care, kindness and love. Her parents call her Tosin (short for Oluwatosin) meaning ‘lord is worthy’.”
Another family member, Temitope Olodo, wrote on Twitter: “My favourite Niece, Rebecca Ikumelo, died today as a result of injuries sustained from @asakemusik Concert.
“This is a great loss for the Olodo and Ikumelo family. I can’t hold back my tears.”
In an earlier message, Mr Olodo referenced Asake’s statement that his concert was part of activities for “December madness.”
Addressing the musician, Olodo said “Your ‘madness’ has resulted in the death of a soul precious…
“A Nigeria Diasporan has died and I am so sad!”
In a message posted on social media, Asake said “I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo who was in a critical condition since Thursday has sadly passed away.
“Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so.
“I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.”
