Actress Regina Daniels on Friday voiced her support for a bill sponsored by her husband, Senator Ned Nwoko, which proposes the creation of Anioma State from the current Delta State.
The movie star shared a video of herself on Instagram dressed in her native attire, expressing her support for the bill.
She began the video by greeting in her native dialect and introducing herself.
In her native language, she stated, “I want to talk about the Anioma people.”
Switching to English, Regina elaborated, “Anioma is indeed an endowed culture, it possesses the classical characteristics of oneness, a shared history, robust culture, language, traditions, and features that set us apart from other local governments in Delta State yet, uniquely connects us to the south-eastern state.
“As a true daughter of Anioma, I am immensely proud of the recently sponsored bill for the creation of Anioma State by my beloved husband and our distinguished Senator Ned Munir Nwoko.”
The actress emphasised the significance of the bill, stating, “I believe the passage of this bill will heed the clarion call for the creation of the sixth state in the south-east, addressing a long-standing injustice.”
She highlighted the positive qualities and profitability of the proposed state, asserting that its creation would ensure fair distribution of natural resources and enhance legislative representation for the Anioma people.
Regina also appealed to all stakeholders, including Anioma traditional rulers’ council and socio-cultural groups, to support this cause and help bring it to fruition.
Earlier in July, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, introduced the bill to carve Anioma State from the present Delta State so it would be the sixth state in the south-east region.
The proposal has sparked controversy as there are also calls for the creation of Etiti State in the south-east.
