Actress Regina Daniels has called for peaceful protests as Nigerian youths embark on their scheduled demonstration against bad governance.
Regina took to her Instagram page on Thursday share a video in which she admonished the youths to maintain peace during their protest. She captioned the video, “A plea for a peaceful protest.”
“Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, whenever you see this video, and Happy new month to everyone,” she began.
Regina continued, “Today is August 1st, which marks one of the national protests in Nigeria. We all know that the masses are suffering; we all know that the masses want a better way of living, hence the protest.
“There is nothing wrong with protesting, absolutely nothing wrong with wanting a change or a better way of living. But there is everything wrong with violence. Once violence gets involved, it defeats the whole purpose of the protest.
“So please, I urge everyone to try and make this protest as peaceful as possible so that the voices of the masses will be heard, and action will be taken on it.”
The actress emphasised that a peaceful protest would ensure individuals can return home safely, referencing the negative consequences of past violent protests. She expressed hope that the August protest would be different and yield positive results.
She concluded, “Once again, this is a call for a peaceful protest.”
The 10-day protest is to force the government to reverse the policies said to be behind the harsh economy.
