England striker, Jamie Vardy, has revealed that he turned down a move to Arsenal in favour of signing a new Leicester City contract because his heart and head told him to.
The 29-year-old snubbed a £120,000-a-week deal from the Gunners just weeks after lifting the Premier League trophy.
But he says that it was a simple decision to reject Arsenal – and he had plenty of time to think about it.
Vardy made the call to remain at the King Power Stadium during the European Championships, where he mulled over the decision while at the Three Lions’ base in Chantilly.
Speaking to BT Sport, he said: “Every time I thought about it, my heart and head were coming to the same answer, which was to stay.
“That was exactly what I wanted to do so it’s exactly what I did.
“I had a lot of time while I was sat in a hotel doing nothing, so it was easy to think about it then and easy to put the pen to paper.”
Vardy faces off against Arsenal on Saturday evening and his boss Claudio Ranieri has backed him to recapture his best form imminently.
