A list of Nigeria’s evergreen songs will most likely be incomplete without a mention of Veno Marioghae’s 1984 monster hit ‘Nigeria Go Survive’.
Released on Tabansi Records, it is a song of hope in a country reeling under the effects of massive corruption, infrastructure decay and brain drain.
The video features the late Nollywood icon Enebeli Elebuwa as Andrew who wanted to check out of the country.
Thirty-seven years after the song was released, the situation in Nigeria has deteriorated.
The opposite is the case with the singer now known as Veno Marioghae-Mbanefo, as she seems to have rolled back the years as recent pictures of her show.
A series of pictures taken of her for a feature in Tribe & Elan magazine to celebrate Nigeria’s 61st independence anniversary were recently uploaded on Facebook.
The overwhelming conclusion of those who commented on the pictures is that she is aging gracefully.
Veno, who says there is more to her than the ‘Nigeria Go Survive’ song, is also a scriptwriter, editor and English elocution/creative writing trainer.
