2015 KOWA Party presidential candidate, Prof. Remi Sonaiya, has criticised Senator Dino Melaye for making a joke of the apprehension gripping the country over the coronavirus pandemic.
Melaye had tweeted late Tuesday that the ‘new Nigerian order’ was one that made rural dwellers fear to come close to those in the diaspora on their return home.
“The New Nigerian Order,” said Melaye, “People who live abroad used to be scared of villagers when they return home…but now, villagers are scared of them!!!”
Sonaiya said in reaction on Wednesday that Melaye’s position in the society demands seriousness in the handling of matters.
“I believe that the exalted position you occupy demands a lot more seriousness. This kind of joke – plus the singing and dancing – should be left to others,” she said.
The former Kogi West lawmaker replied saying he too was human, suggesting that making a joke does not affect productivity.
“We in exalted positions have blood flowing thru our veins not kerosene. D hypocrisy of leaders is responsible for d disconnect with d people. How does cracking a joke affect productivity? I sing & moved highest number of motions and bills. I beg those that sing not wetin dem do?” he asked.
