The wife of the President, Mrs Oluremi Tinubu, has appealed to traditional rulers to help her drive to make life better for women in the country.

Mrs. Tinubu made the appeal on Thursday in Akure at a meeting with the Ondo State Council of Obas as part of her engagement for the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) programme.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that the First Lady is in Akure for the distribution of professional kits to 10, 000 nurses and midwives in the South-West region.

The First Lady, while appreciating the traditional rulers for their support, said there were diseases that the United Nations projected to be eradicated by 2030.

She explained that she was working towards achieving the goal of the country.

She mentioned such diseases as mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, Syphilis and Tuberculosis, among others.

Mrs. Tinubu said she was also planning to have another programme called “Flow With Confidence” targeting girls, especially those in the rural areas, by giving 10,000 sanitary pads to each state.

“We are also trying to stop Female Genital Mutilation which is an old practice. It does not stop any girls from being promiscuous; they are all myths, and it is not good.

“We are doing annual scholarships for our students; our partners are also supporting scholarships in Belarus.

“Also alternative high school for girls, especially those that are pregnant along the line with creche for them to put their children. We’ve done it in Osun State, Ondo is coming soon,” she said.

Earlier, the chairman of the Ondo State Council of Obas, Oba Gbadegesin Ogunoye, said that the traditional rulers would continue to pray for President Bola Tinubu’s success.

Ogunoye, represented by the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, appreciated the wife of the president for the support she has been giving to the President to move the country forward.

“We will continue to pray for him; we can’t give him money; all we can offer is our prayers, and we pray he will not be sick on the throne.

“I appreciate you, ma, for the support you are giving to the President for him to be able to achieve good results.

“I know by the time Asiwaju finishes his first term, people will beg him to do more,” he said.
