Reno Omokri, former media aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has spoken in defence of the general overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Pastor Enoch Adeboye after rapper Eedris Abdulkareem sparked criticism of the clergyman.
Eedris criticised Adeboye in his latest track ‘Emilokan,’ accusing the cleric of remaining silent in the face of hardship under President Bola Tinubu, unlike his vocal stance during Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.
In the track, Eedris sings, “Where our daddy Pastor Adeboye, during Goodluck Jonathan your voice was so loud, you even vowed to stage one million march. Hunger and hardship under Tinubu government you say Nigeria get spiritual problem. Baba, we need your one million disciples to protest against Tinubu government just the way you protest against Jonathan.”
In a post on Monday on X, Omokri, who did not mention Eedris, said Adeboye was a strong supporter of Jonathan’s administration both publicly and privately.
“As someone who worked closely with former President Jonathan while he was in office and out of power, and maintains an enduring friendship and bond with him, it is incumbent on me to correct the false narratives that Pastor Enoch Adeboye fought President Jonathan or had a loud voice against our administration,” Omokri stated.
“Pastor Adeboye was supportive of former President Jonathan, perhaps even more than any other president before or after him.”
He also highlighted that Adeboye was more critical of the Muhammadu Buhari administration, urging those pushing the false narrative to research historical records. “I urge those pushing this narrative to please research historical records in order not to malign a man who has done so much for Nigeria based on hearsay and the typical Nigerian rush to believe and act on rumour and gossip rather than on fact,” Omokri added.
Omokri also shared old photographs of Jonathan and Adeboye, underscoring the close relationship between them.
